Looby - Documentary Film
Look Who's Talking - Thursday 4 March 6.00pm -8.00pm - Free
The Archibald prize is celebrating it's 100th birthday this year. To celebrate we're bringing a special screening of the documentary film Looby to Maitland.
The Archibald Prize always creates much discussion about art in Australia, Looby adds personality and politics to the mix. Among other things, the film delves into the painter's focus on Indigenous history and trauma at a time when Australian institutions were of a "history began with the First Fleet" mindset. These and other resonant threads are weaved together in a tight 80-minute feature film screening and producer Q&A presentation.
Keith Looby is best known for winning the 1984 Archibald Prize for his portrait of satirist Max Gillies. He combined rebel instinct and prodigious talent.
The film screening will be followed by a Q and A presentation with producers.
