Hunter Poetry Slam
Australian Poetry Slam is a live literary performance program where the audience decides the champion. Poets are given a microphone, a live audience and just 2 minutes to impress the judges with their original poems, stories...whatever they do with words.
With a nationwide round of 60 heats, the best slammers will perform for the chance to win the Australian Poetry Slam National Final at Sydney Opera House as part of Story-Fest. The ultimate prize? An all expenses paid international tour, performing at Byron Writers Festival, Ubud Writers and Readers Festival, Singapore Writers Festival, Hong Kong International Literary Festival, Banff Arts Centre and Blue Metropolis Festival.
Hone your poetry writing and performance skills at the free workshop being held at The Bikesmith on 17 July or come along to the Maitland Heat at The Bikesmith on Thursday 5 September.
Hunter Poetry Slam is an initiative of Hunter Library Networks and Cultural Institutions: Newcastle Libraries, Maitland City Library, Upper Hunter Network Library, Upper Hunter Libraries, Singleton Public Library and Octapod.
