Write Now! Children's Literary Award

Kids are invited to take part in Maitland City Library’s annual Write Now! writing competition.

Write Now! is an exciting opportunity for children aged 5-12 years to develop their writing skills and be in the running for some great prizes.

The competition is held every year, with entries opening in April and closing in June. Winners are announced in a special awards presentation during Children's Book Week in August.

How to enter

Entry packs can be downloaded or collected from any Maitland City Library branch from April.

Come along to a Write Now! writing workshop

Writing workshops are held at every library branch during May to assist entrants in developing their stories and include the following topics:

  • Workshop 1 - Researching your topic and choosing a text type for your audience
  • Workshop 2 - Constructing your text, including drafting, revising and conferencing
  • Workshop 3 - Editing, publishing and presenting your writing diary

The Write Now! Children’s Literary award is sponsored by the Friends of Maitland City Library in partnership with Maitland City Library and the University of Newcastle's Faculty of Education.

The award encourages literacy development, fosters creativity and promotes pride in achievement for children of the local area.
