ANZAC books and activities
With ANZAC Day approaching we’ve got a selection of books and activities to help children understand the significance of the day and pay their respects to our soldiers.
We have also gathered ANZAC activities you can do at home, thanks to the Australian War Memorial, Cleverpatch and the Hellenic Club of Canberra for the templates and ideas.
- Make an ANZAC Lantern. A great idea for those who are participating in driveway dawn services. You can use recycled milk cartons or recycled glass jars to make your lantern.
Milk carton lantern
Using a 2 litre milk or juice carton, cut the top third of the carton off and decorate with poppies using permanent markers, paint, paper cut-outs or even knit your own and stick on. To help weigh it down place a small amount of sand or rice in the bottom (optional), then place a tealight candle in the bottom for light. You can use the poppy template from the ANZAC wreath activity below.
Glass jar lantern
Remove the label from your jar so it is ready to decorate. You can use the same process as the milk carton lanterns, or if you are feeling extra crafty you can use the template from Cleverpatch
- Make your own wreath in remembrance of our fallen soldiers using this template
- Complete this ANZAC Day activity booklet
- Have an ANZAC biscuit bake off using original recipes or learn more about this very special day with resources from the War Memorial.
