Australian Museum - Museum in a Box

On exhibition at East Maitland, Rutherford and Thornton Libraries.

Museum in a Box is an exciting outreach program by the Australian Museum. Each box containing real museum specimens, casts, artefacts, dioramas, images, DVDs, CDs, books and resources.

On display 1 May - 28 May and 4 June - 26 June.

These boxes are ideal for school groups.

Bush Tucker - East Maitland Library

Explore the creative way Indigenous people respond to diverse conditions and environments. The exhibition includes bush food specimens, bush tucker environment posters and bush tucker activity cards.

Living on the Land - Rutherford Library

Examines the practical and spiritual significance of land to Indigneous Australians. Looking at the different methods of tool making, the variety of techniques that are used to find and collect food and the creative way Indigneous people respond to diverse conditions and environments, it helps us to understand the ways in which Indigneous people obtain, process and use their food resources.

Reptiles - Thornton Library

Reptiles include crocodiles and their relatives, tortoises and turtles, snakes and lizards. Australia contains around thirteen per cent of the total world species of reptiles and is a wonderful place to see and study them. This box contains some real specimens of Australian reptiles, information panels, posters, and teacher activities.
